SMALL CHRISTIAN COMMUNITIES
“Small Christian Communities are Christ centered by the
very nature of their existence. A Small Christian Community is a gathering of Christians who
come together on a regular basis to hear the Word of God and to give thanks to
God for all the blessings he has given them. Each person shares
their story and their faith with one another. They read the
scriptures together and they pray together. The individual groups
will do projects to help either in the Church or in the Community as their way
of showing thanks for the blessings received. The gatherings are
normally held at one another’s home and usually have between five and twelve
people in attendance. Small Christian Communities exist because of the mutual
support that is given so generously with love, for the encouragement, for prayer
and worship and for reflection on scripture and church teaching and discernment
of gospel responses appropriate to the different situations in
life. It is not only a support group, prayer group, or study
group. It is a community where we are trying to be
one as Jesus and the Father are one (Jn St. Anthony’s has Small Christian Communities that meet year
round. Some groups meet in the evenings, some during the
day. We have special times during the year, such as Lent and just
before Advent, with materials that pertain to these seasons. If
you are interested in seeing what it is all about, please call the Rectory at
925-625-2048 and leave your name and phone number and someone from the Small
Christian Communities will get in touch with you. |
