ADULT CONFIRMATION
Come, Holy Spirit
And fill the hearts of the faithful,
And kindle in them,
The fires of the divine love
Although often misunderstood by some as a mere “rite of passage” into adulthood, the Sacrament of Confirmation is much, much more. It is the Sacrament of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
The Sacrament of Confirmation confers saving grace. It gives us the strength “to endure to the
end” (Matthew
“I have fought a good fight: I have finished my course: I have kept the faith.”
At Confirmation we receive:An increase in the grace given at Baptism.
The gift of an indelible spiritual mark, characterized by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
An increased strength as Christians to profess our faith in an open manner.
In addition to becoming an adult member of the Catholic Church, we are called to some very special duties.
We are called upon to become defenders of the faith.
We are called to know our Faith, the teachings of the Holy Church, and be willing and able to
defend the Faith against attack.
We are also called to stand up for that which is just, and be willing to suffer for our faith.
“But the
fruit of the Spirit is, charity, joy, peace, patience, benignity, goodness,
longanimity (long-suffering), mildness, faith, modesty, continency,
chastity. Against such there is no
law.” Galatians 5:22-23
The diocesan celebration of Adult Confirmation is for catechized adults who have previously received the sacraments of Baptism and Eucharist and are seeking Confirmation. Preparation for the reception of the sacrament takes place once a year in the parish. The preparations usually begin in September and end sometime in January. At that time you will be sent to the Bishop to receive the sacrament of Confirmation.
